Strategic Plan FAQs

What’s the difference between the strategic plan pillars and values?

Our Values represent the Division’s shared beliefs that define, guide, and orient the work and culture of the Division of Student Affairs. Moreover, we commit to demonstrating our values in our collective work, interactions, and engagements with UCI students, campus partners, as well as the community at-large.

Pillars:  The Strategic Plan Pillars represent important long term, broad areas of focus for the collective work of the Division of Student Affairs. The Pillars also communicate the Division’s priorities and the type of work in which we will engage in over the next three years to fulfill the mission.  The Pillars are supported by measurable goals.

What are the definitions of terms used by the Division of Student Affairs to develop the strategic plan?

Some of the strategic plan’s “Pillars” and the “Values” are the same. What’s the difference?

See definition of terms to distinguish between strategic plan “Pillars” and “Values”.  Our values represent broadly-shared beliefs of the Division of Student Affairs. Staff use the values to guide their work and interactions with students, colleagues, and partners.  The pillars represent broad areas of focus for the Division’s collective work and are supported by strategic plan goals.
