UCI Task Force on Campus Culture – Alcohol, Drugs and Behaviors
Dear Campus Community,
I am writing as a follow-up to Chancellor Howard Gillman’s email sent on January 24, 2019. In that email, the Chancellor asked me to convene a task force to review and report on our current campus culture with respect to alcohol and other drugs. The task force’s objective is to provide me with recommendations on how we can improve our campus culture and policies based on new research, best practices and our aspirations to ensure a healthier environment in the future.
I am pleased to share that Cynthia Haq, M.D., department chair of Family Medicine at the UCI Medical Center, has agreed to chair the task force. Dr. Haq joined UCI in January 2018 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as a lifelong advocate for global and community health. Among her many accomplishments, she was the founding director for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Global Health Institute.
The task force is comprised of an interdisciplinary set of experts and stakeholders who are committed to the health and well-being of the campus.
I look forward to receiving the task force’s recommendations and plan to update the campus accordingly.
Sincerely,
Edgar J. Dormitorio
Interim Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs
